In her home state of Connecticut, Sheri Moon Zombie (born Sheri Lyn Skurkis) grew up watching family-friendly favorites like Scooby Doo and The Wizard of Oz, but the future scream queen also remembers sitting alone scared out of her wits after watching spooky classics such as The Amityville Horror, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Shining. At this point only a movie fan, but not a full-fledged aspiring actress, Sheri Moon Zombie took off for a Californian adventure at 17 to figure out her future, and she quickly settled on the idea of doing voice work on cartoons. She enrolled in some courses, but lost interest and decided that MTV VJing might be a better bet. With her mind clouded by ambitions in different directions, Sheri Moon Zombie found her muse when she was introduced to Rob Zombie at a New Haven concert hall called Toad's Place. With no knowledge of who he or the band White Zombie was, Sheri Moon Zombie went into the meeting cold and emerge
After working with Rob Zombie as a tour dancer, album cover girl and music video star, some people would say that Sheri Moon Zombie rode the coattails of her husband all the way into an acting career in his films House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects. Not true. The fact is, she's a smart cookie and her success runs deeper than that. Far more of a collaborator with Rob Zombie than a cheerleader to his every move, she concedes that they have spirited creative disagreements at times. Sheri Moon Zombie regularly offers creative input into her screen characters, especially that of Deborah Myers for their most recent projects, the remake of Halloween and its 2009 sequel. Save for a few select credits like Toolbox Murders and a Californication guest spot, Sheri Moon Zombie has yet to establish herself outside of Rob Zombie's world of filmmaking. That's not to say that she doesn't have a following, as some male fans have gone so far as to tattoo her face on their bodies, while females have mimicked her on-screen wardrobe as the homicidal Baby Firefly for Halloween costumes. Not blinded by her rising star power to see the influence she carries in the rock and horror community, Sheri Moon Zombie recently took the plunge into fashion design to further embrace her fans.
Sheri Moon Zombie and her husband are one of Hollywood's longest-running couples, having gotten together in 1989 and then tied the knot on Halloween of 2002. Luckily for us, Rob Zombie isn't the possessive jealous type, and he has no qualms about filming his beautiful blond wife in and out of clothes all for the sake of making a good horror movie. Either that or he's just trying to show everyone else what they're missing. Rob Zombie's careful attention to Sheri Moon Zombie's… um… details haven't gone unnoticed, as Maxim pegged her with the No. 7 ranking on its list of the Hottest Women in Horror while Playboy arranged for her to do a pictorial in 2005. While movies might be the main form of professional collaborations between Sheri Moon Zombie and her husband right now, she also enjoys their time on the road for musical tours. Why? Life in tour buses and hotels means no laundry, no chores and no cleaning. Although she describes herself as "insane," Sheri Moon Zombie's on-screen deviance doesn't carry over into her off-screen personality in ways that are lethal. She found it difficult to film a stabbing scene in House of 1000 Corpses, which is reassuring to know that a romantic evening with her wouldn't end with a surprise a knife in the back. It would more likely end with something from the oven, since she admits that she adores baking.
